Transformers #2 Story Summary
After the events in Transformers #1 and Void Rivals #1 by Image / Skybound, which launched the "Energon Universe" saga, Optimus Prime explores the beautiful countryside and admires the beauty of Earth. Then, he steps on a deer, which demonstrates to him the fragility of carbon-based lifeforms.
Spike, the human who helped to save Optimus in the previous issue, who then hitched a ride out of the Ark with him, converses with his new gigantic robot friend about the concept of "family" and where the Transformers came from.
Readers (and Spike) learn of the mechanical planet Cybertron, and the terrible civil war between Autobots and Decepticons. Optimus tells of how the Transformers were losing the battle. They left Cybertron on the Ark in search of a new way to fight their Cybertronian oppressors, but Megatron found them and nearly killed Optimus before crashing into Earth (Megatron is now missing).
Using Optimus Prime's trailer, the Autobots slowly start to rebuild each other in the quarry where Jetfire crashed in Transformers #1. Cliffjumper shows up and is freaked out by the small, squishy, human life forms around him. Like the Decepticons, the Autobots are now in search of more power and Energon.
Meanwhile, the Decepticons, led by Starscream, ravage a local power station in their quest for Energon. Skywarp and Soundwave gather energy, while Starscream transforms into jet mode to intercept a military F-18 on route to investigate the "giant robot disturbance." The plane carries a special passenger named Duke, a member of G.I. Joe.
Starscream and the F-18 engage in combat, but Starscream transforms in the middle of combat, forcing the humans to eject. He squashes the pilot, Capt. Frosting, with both hands, while Duke watches. The plane crashes into the power plant while Duke evades Starscream and barely escapes using a jetpack.
Optimus Prime sees the smoke from a distance and rushes to fight the Decepticons, while Spike hitches a ride. Carly, Spike's friend, races home, only to discover Spike's dad, Mr. Witwicky, armed and preparing for battle. Carly and readers learn that the guy Starscream squashed in the previous issue was her dad.
