Conan the Barbarian #107 Story Summary
After Conan steps in to prevent Queen Tananda from beating Diana in Conan the Barbarian #106, she throws a fit about his insolence. Despite being the captain of her royal guards, Conan throws even more fuel onto the fire by questioning her tactical decisions. Conan frees the terrified slave girl from her chains and carries her away while Tananda screams and yells at him.
Conan and the blond slave are spotted entering Conan's quarters by Shubba, a faithful retainer of Lord Tuthmes. He rats them out at once.
Tuthmes plots and schemes by firelight with Shubba and the sorcerer, Muru. His plan to overthrow Meroê is not going as planned because of Conan's involvement, but he will still enjoy the execution of the traitor, Aahmes, who is about to be set ablaze in the town square in front of the queen.
Conan, watching in disgust, senses that something is wrong and races back to his chambers, where he finds Diana screaming and yelling as a mysterious monster emerges from a magic fog and attacks her. Conan rushes to attack, but trips and falls. The monster takes the advantage and leaps on top of him and nearly eats his face. Conan kicks it off, but it resumes its attack and proves to be a worthy foe. The powerful monster with sharp, pointy teeth grapples with Conan and almost wins the battle, until Diana kicks Conan with his sword, which he uses to stab it in the side.
As it staggers backward, Conan swings and almost chops off its head. The wounded creature falls to the ground, and Conan thinks that he has won, but as his back is turned, the "demon of the night" stumbles away. Conan follows it to see where it goes.
The strange, wounded creature wanders into the middle of the chaos outside and kneels before the sorcerer Muru. The crowd, already whipped up into a frenzy, goes wild and calls for the death of Tuthmes, Tananda, and all the royals. Conan, who was going to continue fighting the monster, watches as they tear Tuthmes to shreds and throw a spear into Tananda's chest.
While the city burns, he grabs Diana and flees on horseback!
