Conan the Barbarian #108 Story Summary

After rescuing the slave girl, Diana, from the burning city of Meroê in Conan the Barbarian #107, the pair ride north on horseback and encounter a pair of the queen's sentries. They attack, and Conan kills one, sending the other to flee. The two gain a horse and camp for the night, where Conan points out that Diana is not cut out for rugged living. He asks how she ended up a slave girl in Kush, and she tells him the story.

Diana's father had been sent by King Nimid to the royal court of Argos, where she accompanied him and witnessed travelers returning from Khitai screaming about a curse. People around them started dropping dead as plague ravaged the city, and Diana and her father hopped a ship bound for Zingara. Before it could reach port, it was attacked by buccaneers. Diana's father was killed, and she was sold to slave-traders and ended up with Tuthmes, who gave her to Queen Tananda.

Conan comforts the distressed Diana, and it is implied that the two share a romantic evening. After waking the next morning and putting on their clothes, the pair continue to ride north towards Sukhmet.

On their journey, they are ambushed by men from Darfar who attack from the woods.

Conan fights, but soon finds himself outnumbered. He throws Diana onto his back and runs away into a caravan of travelers led by an old acquaintance of Conan named Thutmekri. The Darfari hold back, but demand that they hand over Diana as a sacrifice for their Moon Dance. Conan and another man, a Stygian named Erfu, take her place to avoid any more bloodshed. Though Conan will be taken captive, he doesn't plan on being their prisoner for very long.

That night, the two prisoners are tied to stakes and watch the Darfari dance in front of the moon, preparing for their human sacrifices. Erfu, an apprentice sorcerer, burns his ties with a vial of liquid and then helps to free the Cimmerian. Conan breaks his chains and attacks the Darfari. After killing many, he steals a horse and rides away with Erfu to the border town of Sukhmet. There, he finds Diana lounging in luxury with Thutmekri. She shows no more interest in Conan, so he bids them farewell and leaves with Erfu to discover new adventures.
