Transformers #31 (Image Comics, 2026)
Transformers #31 (April 2026), published by Image Comics and Skybound. Megatron's weird seizures are finally explained, sort of. The Decepticon leader goes through thousands of painful trials as a mysterious being forces him to yield and perhaps evolve. But, into what? My guess is Cy-Kill from the Go-Bots.
Transformers #31 Story Summary
Megatron clearly needs some professional help. Not only is he a deranged, psychotic lunatic, but he has also been suffering from some pretty nasty and unexplained seizures over the past several issues (see Transformers #25).
At long last, Megatron's seizures are explained. What's really going on in his head is that the Quintessons (from Transformers: The Movie and the Void Rivals series) are inside his head and putting him through trials that his friends can't see in the real world. This issue starts with Megatron being ripped to pieces in trial 6,353. He continues to refuse his "gifted" form from the mystery forces trying to test him, and readers get the sense that this has been going on for a while.
While Optimus Prime (or Elite One, in this case, as seen in Transformers #30) carries the Matrix of Leadership, Megatron carries the Matrix of Oppression (because there are two sides to every Shwartz.) The Matrix of Oppression houses the essence of every great Decepticon leader and glows a vibrant purple.
How many years have passed? Readers don't know, but Megatron continues to suffer through trials of pain and misery and Sharkticons until he reaches #10,000 and finally yields. He stands before the end boss, maybe. A wicked Transformer named Megatronus, who is literally on fire, serves judgment.
Megatron promises to walk in its path. He collapses.
Back on Earth, Megatron starts to evolve like a Pokémon, but meaner. Rumble and Soundwave are confused. Does Megatron turn into Cy-Kill, Godzilla, or a purple monster with pointy, sharp things...?
