Groo the Wanderer #2 Story Summary
Groo enters a town while a minstrel sings his praises. Unfortunately, while singing gleeful melodies, they wander through a funeral procession for the king's son and are thrown in jail forever.
While in jail, they overhear a story of how the king's son died trying to defeat the Mocosa, a terrible dragon that lives in a nearby cave. For years, the town's residents have offered the dragon gold, jewels, and women to spare to their village.
The minstrel hatches a plan to sing a song about how Groo is good at killing Mocosas. Legend has it that the one who slays the Mocosa is granted riches and the princess' hand in marriage. This sounds good to Groo and great to the king, who assumes he will die fighting the dragon.
Under armed guard, Groo enters a "fray" on his way to the cave, then rushes inside to fight the dragon. Groo is greeted with fire breath (twice) and decides to find another way in to attack from the rear.
Once inside, Groo discovers a cave filled with gold, jewelry, wine, and beautiful women. Also, an old man who tells Groo that he is the Mocosa and has been living in the cave for years with a lava-fueled fire machine to scare villagers. The old man offers Groo his position as Mocosa.
Groo ponders the situation. Groo decides that he will miss frays and wants to marry a princess. Groo cuts a path for a stream inside the cave to reach the lava machine.
The entire mountain blows up and floods the nearby town with lava.
Groo walks away, unharmed but upset that he did not get to marry a princess.
