Groo the Wanderer Collection

The Groo the Wanderer comic book series, created by Sergio Aragonés with writer Mark Evanier, first appeared in the early 1980s and quickly earned a reputation as one of the most successful long-running humor titles in American comics. Originally published by Pacific Comics before moving to Eclipse and later Marvel’s Epic imprint, the series follows Groo, a well-meaning but clueless barbarian whose presence inevitably brings chaos, destruction, and misunderstanding wherever he travels. Set in a playful fantasy world filled with pirates, kings, wizards, and scheming armies, the comic cleverly parodies the sword-and-sorcery genre while delivering sharp satire on politics, war, greed, and human folly. Aragonés’ dense, energetic artwork rewards careful reading with visual gags in nearly every panel, giving the series a unique rhythm that blends slapstick comedy with surprisingly intelligent storytelling.
