G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #6 Story Summary

After destroying a giant robot in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #3, defeating a militia in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #4, and nearly destroying all of New York City in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #5, the Joes return to the Pit for a little R&R. Steeler even challenges Scarlett to a game of Space Invaders in the Rec-Room!

Hawk shows up to kill the buzz with a mission straight from General Flagg. He gives a presentation: Two weeks ago, a top-secret Russian spy craft crashed in the mountains of Afghanistan. The Afghan rebels have the wreckage and will to let the Joes take it away if the Joes can beat Cobra and the Russians to it. Stalker, Scarlett, Clutch, Steeler, Flash, and Breaker volunteer for the mission and fly away in an hour to sunny Afghanistan.

From the communications room, Hawk appears to make a secret call to Cobra and give away their location. Is Hawk up to no good? Readers don't know yet.

The Joes parachute over Afghanistan along with the components to build a giant R.T.V. (Rough Terrain Vehicle). On the ground, they meet their CIA operative, and the Afghan rebels help to assemble the R.T.V. and load the components of the Russian spy plane. Steeler takes the helm of the massive R.T.V., while Stalker and Clutch take point in the VAMP, and the Joes drive off, hoping to avoid any unnecessary complications.

It doesn't take long for the Russians to find them and open fire as the Joes attempt to cross a ravine in the mountains, but these aren't just any Russians; it's the Oktober Guard (Russia's special forces equivalent to G.I. Joe). Colonel Brekhow, Schrage, Horror Show, Stormavik, and Daina attack the Joes in their Communist ATV.

The two teams wage war in the desert, but Flash looks to take the advantage and raises the front of the R.T.V. high up into the air to attack the Russians from above. The Oktober Guard won't be slowed down, though, and race to fight the Joes in hand-to-hand combat around and beneath the R.T.V.

But, before things get too violent, another heavily armed force of soldiers with machine guns arrives on the scene, led by Cobra Commander. It's Cobra!

Cobra Commander gives the order to line up the Joes and the Oktober Guard on the side of the ravine and shoot them... The issue ends on a cliffhanger, and an ad for the G.I. Joe VAMP!
