Conan the Barbarian #29 Story Summary

Conan enters Turan's cosmopolitan capital city, Aghrapur, where "purple-sailed galleys bring the gleaming wealth of trade-minded neighbor-states." Where there is wealth and galleys (and Conan), then you know that wine, wenches, and trouble aren't far away.

After witnessing a group of crazed, half-naked women shouting about the "Bloor of Tarim," Conan besmirches Prince Yezdigard within earshot of loud-mouthed zealots who attack him for defaming their god. Conan, probably still drunk from the night before, doesn't take their punches and kicks kindly. He returns their aggression by slaughtering them with his sword.

A man named Amir of Khawarizm rides into the fray on a horse that Conan tackles, sending Amir to his grave, but stirring up more locals who back him into a strange building where a mysterious man named Ormraxes guides him to the safety of a dank tavern. Before he even has time to get drunk (again), the tavern is raided by Turanian guards looking for Eithriall, who is the same man as Ormraxes!

Conan is overpowered and knocked out in the battle. He wakes up in another strange place where more weirdos feed him food and libations, along with a story about how Conan now has to save Ormraxes because he owes him one for saving him earlier. After pounding numerous flagons of wine, Conan takes the job and breaks into the prison, where he battles numerous guards and frees Ormraxes.

Things get weird when Conan drops him off with Ormraxes' friends, who turn out to be Ormraxes himself, but not Ormraxes, a spiritual double who looks like Ormraxes and uses the power of an Occult Gem to combine the two men (one of whom is a ghost, maybe) into one called Eithriall the Invincible!

Before Eithriall can turn into a Godzilla-sized monster that shoots fire from his hands, Conan throws his sword at the gem, stops the weirdling ritual, and watches as everyone burns, dies, and screams.

Another job well done, Conan!
