Is everyone ready for Conan the Barbarian issue number 29 from August of 1973 here on 80scomics.com. I’m going to assume the answer is yes because look at this. It’s awesome. This is one of the few things around here that predates me. It’s only partially senile. I am completely senile, though I still appreciate my Conan the Barbarian Two Against Turan. Look at that artwork. It’s John Buscema and Ernie Chua. How do you pronounce that name. Well, they’re good. Whatever the pronunciation, it’s great. I’m intrigued by this advertisement. Super bodybuilding course. You’ll put on inches. Let’s just leave it at that. I love this era of Conan the Barbarian because you get a lot of writing and you get a lot of detailed artwork.

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time enjoying these old school issues of Conan. And this isn’t just goofy drunk 80s Conan. As much as I love goofy drunk 80s Conan, this is badass kick ass 1970s Conan. Conan in his prime.

If you like Conan, you’re going to love this. So Conan sets foot in the land of Agra fer. Land or city, I’m not sure, but it’s not where he’s from apparently. Agra, agra, whatever that place is. The locals are suspicious of Conan because they’re clearly intimidated by his mullet paved streets and painted women. Perhaps he will like it after all. I heard that outlander. Brothers heed me, this one dreams of our god. He blasphemes. Slay the blasphemer.

It reminds me of Life of Brian, which is one of my favorite movies, so I enjoy that. And I thoroughly enjoy this picture right here. It actually has a bit of a Jeff Darrow quality to it. A lot of really good detail. It’s like a static picture, yet there’s a lot of motion.

Classic 70s. In the 80s, 90s, and modern era they’d have Action Alliance and all kinds of stuff going on, but old school 70s is like a snapshot. But look, Conan is taking out fifteen guys at once. And if that’s not enough, he also beats up a horse, because horses suck. That is some serious party in the back with business in the front right there. Anyway, the locals don’t really like him. This guy does. He saves Conan and Conan, kind of like a Lannister, pays his debts. But unlike a Lannister, he doesn’t make you suffer through eight seasons of nonsense and then ruin the entire thing in the last couple episodes. Because when you watch Conan the Barbarian with Schwarzenegger, you’re entertained the entire way through. Sorry, Game of Thrones sucks. You know what’s good. Airwolf.

What I really like about this issue is the action scenes. Just terrific detail. And a lot of panels, more than you got later in the series when it was admittedly a bit goofy. In this one you can almost feel Conan fighting for his life. And he’s not just drunk. He probably is, but at least he’s not visibly drunk. He crushes this guy’s head into the ground. Are those Belgian blocks.

The day Bill told off his boss. How dare these advertisers steal Conan’s thunder. This is terrific. Get in here Bill, I want to talk to you. You punched in seven minutes late, I’m docking you an hour’s pay and it better not happen again or else. You jerk, I’m going to give you a bad review on Yelp.

Man’s wig, seven ninety five. Is there actually a comic book in this because the ads totally steal the show. How Joe solved his security problem with a shotgun. There should be a segment in these 80scomics.com reviews where we point out the lies on the cover because this never actually happens in the book.

And she’s not actually in the book or in this scene. Still the greatest sword and sorcery mag of them all. What’s the competition. The Warlord wasn’t out yet. Star Wars didn’t exist. Who was better than Conan. Nobody. Except maybe that guy with the wig. Where is he. There he goes. Man’s wig, seven ninety five. What’s this over here. Full bag of horrors. Electric guitar and amp fifteen ninety five. Poems. All of this and more can be yours in Conan the Barbarian issue number 29 from August of 1973.
