Conan the Barbarian #104 Story Summary

Conan is still War-Chief of the Bamulas after slaying Yorubo in Conan the Barbarian #101. He leads his tribe of Bamulas to treat with the Bakalah tribe under the rule of Bajujn. By firelight, the Bamulas and Bahalah's drink while a captive woman from the north named Livia watches from a nearby hut. She is served food and water and awaits her fate, either death or slavery.

She watches Conan through slats in the wall and knows that he, too, is from the north and might save her. After the men outside all become drunk and go to bed, she crawls through the floor of the hut and makes her way to his hut, where he grabs her by the hair and pulls her up through the floorboards. She pleads with Conan to save her and tells him that she is from Ophir and was taken prisoner after a raid. She offers herself to Conan, who declines, because that's not how Conan rolls.

Conan doesn't want her to interrupt his plans to screw over the Bakalahs, who plan to screw over the Bamulas. He is going to pre-emptively screw them in the morning and tells her to go back to her hut.

The next morning, Conan and the Bamulas slaughter the Bakalahs. In the confusion of the bloody battle, Livia freaks out, steals a horse, and flees the village into the savage wilderness. After being thrown from her horse some miles away, she finds herself in a strange field surrounded by women with flowers in their hair. The women restrain her and force her down onto an altar in the middle of the field of flowers. She is numbed and unable to move as a strange creature descends from the sky above.

Livia screams as she is about to be torn limb from limb by a monster from the sky when Conan the Barbarian shows up to save her.

The winged monster is powerful and nearly defeats Conan. Conan, of course, manages to find a way to stab it in the head, wounding the creature enough that it flies away.

After saving Livia, Conan agrees to take her north to the Stygian border.
