Conan the Barbarian #103 Story Summary

After getting his ass kicked by the Vampire King in Conan the Barbarian #102, Conan wakes up on a rock slab in a cave. The Vampire King stands over him, admiring his strength. Conan punches him in the face.

Meanwhile, Conan's Bamula warriors are captured by the Drelliks and locked in a cell.

The Vampire King tells Conan how he became a vampire. He was once K'Chama, the greatest warrior of his tribe. On a midnight hunt, he was attacked by a strange bat and died a sort of death until he rose again as a vampire! After killing his tribe's chieftain, he became chief and ruled for many moons. His followers filed their teeth and drank blood, becoming the "men who drink blood" from Conan #102.

Then, the Vampire King tells Conan that he is the only man that he has ever met who is worthy to share a life of immortality with him. The Vampire King wants to make Conan a vampire. Conan is not down with this idea and attacks, but the Vampire King easily subdues him with his immense vampire strength and throws him back into a prison cell.

When Conan comes to, he meets a strange woman in the cell with him named Eesee, who is the bride of K'Chama and kept for mating purposes.

Disappointed with Conan's response, the Vampire King serves one of Conan's men to his bloodthirsty Drelliks, who eat him alive. Conan, now bound in chains, begrudgingly agrees to become a vampire if K'Chama releases his Bamulas. Conan then demands that Eesee be set free, and the Vampire King balks at the idea. She then throws a spear into his back.

This provides enough of a distraction for Conan to attack M'Chama with his chains and flee the cave to climb the cliffs outside. Though Conan made an oath to join the Vampire King in immortality, he made a bit of a white lie (a rarity for Conan) and reasons with himself that he'll join M'Chama if he can find him when he's 80.

The Vampire King, in a rage with a spear in his back, follows Conan up the cliff when Conan's Bamula warriors return and attack to slay the Drelliks. Conan manages to kick M'Chama off the cliff. The vampire still has a spear stuck in his back, and when he lands is run through by the wooden shaft. Conan recalls part of M'Chama's story from earlier about how he killed the vampire bat with a wooden stake.

Conan takes this opportunity to chop off the wounded M'Chama's head before he rises again.

Then, Conan and the Bamulas burn the Drellik village and walk away. Conan thanks his former rival, Basuto, for returning to save him, and then makes him sub-chief.
