Transformers #12 Story Summary

All hope for the Autobots, and by extension, the entire planet Earth, seems lost after Shockwave, Soundwave, and Devastator lay waste to the planet and their enemies in Transformers #11. What can Cliffjumper, a wounded Optimus Prime, a pacifict robot, and a few humans possibly do to defeat them?

Arcee and team rigged Nemesis, the Decepticon base, to blow, but Optimus and team are pinned down, outgunned, and unable to escape. Ultra Magnus, after 150 years of torture, turned and fled. Thankfully, the stubborn Carly decides not to stay put in the Ark as she was told, and jumps her custom van through the Skywarp portal directly into Soundwave's face, saving Cliffjumper in the process.

Devastator stomps on Cliffjumper and kicks him loose, tearing off his arm and sending him flying through the portal to Cybertron, where he crashes into the Combaticons before they can engage the Autobots.

With Cliffjumper free and the Decepticons distracted, Optimus and Elita topple Devastator into Shockwave's energy harvester, setting off the explosives. Cybertron breaks free of Earth and slides back through the teleporter into its own space.

Unwilling to leave Cliffjumper at the mercy of Cybertron's horrors, Optimus jumps through the portal and engages Shockwave, blasting off his arm and then grabbing his face. Before Optimus can stop himself, his visions return, and he is unable to restrain himself from crushing Shockwave's head. Elita One seems to think it was a good idea, but Optimus is, for whatever reason, sad because it was dishonorable or whatever.

As Optimus plans to leave Cybertron through the portal with Cliffjumper, Elita One destroys the portal, thus keeping him in the war on Cybertron.

But, unwilling to stay, Optimus blows up Shockwave's energy reserves and leaps from Cybertron into Earth's orbit and, along with a spiral of water taken from the blue planet, falls to the ground from space.

All hope seems lost until Beachcomber surfs up the water spiral and captures Optimus, preventing him from burning up in orbit because surfing is more powerful than physics (or so it seems). A huge, severed chunk of Cybertron falls into the ocean behind them.
