Conan the Barbarian #111 Story Summary

Conan wakes up in the city of Buryat after spending the night with the beautiful, blond Tossa, whom he met in Conan the Barbarian #110. She claims that she is his wife because he won the battle against the Heaven Bear, but Conan disagrees. While the two discuss their marital situation, the wife and kids of the man who wore the pather helmet in Conan #110 show up and say that they are Conan's slaves. Conan does not want slaves, so he hands her a gold cup and tells them to go away.

As Conan tries to make sense of the strange city with its bizarre customs and magic, Erfu shows up yelling that King Aosoka heard things that Conan said and is outraged. Conan, apparently losing patience with the nonsense in the city, demands to see the king and marches to him. On his way, a Priest of the Bear God, who wears enormous ears, threatens him. Conan tears off his fake ears, barges into the throne room, slays the dwarf guards, and rushes to attack King Aosoka.

The King drops some kind of magic netting on Conan, which freezes the mighty barbarian. Conan, not one to give up, struggles to break free and then swings at the King, but smashes a mirror instead of hitting him. It seems there is less magic in Buryat than there are cheap parlor tricks!

Conan charges into the room with the pyramid and glowing orb. He climbs to the orb and discovers that it is a viewing device that the dwarves use to see over the walls into the grasslands beyond. He can use the big ears to hear everything in the city, which is how King Aosoka can hear all that is said. Conan smashes the orb while archers shoot at him. Then, a man named Thanamund, who claims to be Tossa's brother, gives an assist by pouring smoke onto the archers from a bag. He then helps Conan to escape the city.

After sneaking out of the city and crossing the river, Conan goes to talk to the Aesir to see if he can convince them to revolt against their dwarf masters.
