Welcome back to ComicBook.beer for the review of Transformers issue number 31 in the Energon Universe from Image and Skybound. Bright, bold cover featuring everybody's favorite happy-go-lucky Transformer, Megatron.

And I think I already recommended this as a Daily Comic Book Mission. Mandatory required reading, but this time around I'm going to show you and I'm going to use my real human brain and a camera instead of just AI generating this.

And how can you tell? Because AI is not going to have the Micronauts on its watch.

That's how you can tell.

So this takes place here in the Nemesis, the Decepticon stronghold. And basically this entire issue is Megatron tripping balls. So just in case you're wondering, you know what, I've always wanted to read a comic book where Megatron is just high as a kite and tripping the entire issue, well, this is the issue for you.

Here's the creative team. It was awesome.

They're really putting together the A-Team for all of these Transformers issues, which are my favorite installments in the Energon Universe so far. This is so far beyond everything else in the Energon Universe. Like, I like Void Rivals, but I love Transformers.

And there's Soundwave. Everybody loves Soundwave.

If you've been reading the series up to now, in fact I think it's important that you've been reading the series up to now, otherwise you'll have no idea what the hell is going on. But basically Megatron is just a horrible Transformer. You know he's a bad guy, but he's like a really bad guy in this series.

And he occasionally has these seizures and he starts freaking out and he's screaming, "Dizemir! No!"

That's my Megatron voice, I guess.

And now we're seeing what Megatron is seeing. So for the first time, I think this is the first time readers can join Megatron on his trip, fighting monsters in these trials. And they're giving numbers up here.

6,353 trials.

So Megatron's been at this for a while.

"I will not serve! You will serve or you'll die a trillion deaths!"

Which is still better than watching Episode One.

But Megatron will not give in. Never! He's not going to do what these things want him to do.

Now the art style is a little different in this issue than some of the other ones. It's a super fast read, but colorful. A lot of fun to look at Megatron being torn to pieces.

One of these days maybe I'll have to bring back the Whodefeatz series and do a comparison between which is worse, watching Episode One or enduring influencers.

It's Jar Jar Binks on one hand, or annoying people screaming about makeup or whatever. I don't know. They both suck anyway.

What doesn't suck is the Matrix of Oppression. That sounds pretty cool. So we've all heard about the Matrix of Leadership. Right? Well that's one side of the Schwartz. The other side of the Schwartz is the Matrix of Oppression.

And we've got the Decepticon one of these things here. The Matrix houses the essence of all the great Decepticon leaders before you. That's like these guys here, the great Decepticons.

Look at them.

You know how you know they're Decepticons?

Actually they all kind of look the same.

You can easily identify Sharkticons, though. Sharkticons are awesome. I love Sharkticons. I can never get enough Sharkticons. In fact, I'm kind of mad at Megatron for stomping on the Sharkticons. I like Sharkticons more than Megatron.

Megatron loses every battle.

Sharkticons win just by existing.

The Sharkticons deserve their own series.

Anyway, here we've got Megatron fighting what looks like a Pokemon to me. I don't know what this thing is.

Then he goes off on some spirit quest. And it's a very cinematic issue. Again, this is a super fast read, but one gets the sense that this is very important in understanding the overall story of where this is going.

So that's the issue. That's really the review of issue 31. You need to read the issues before this. And I think you probably need to read this one to understand the issues after this.

Got it? Good.

Okay. Transformers issue 31. It's one of my favorites. In fact, this is probably my favorite comic book series going right now.

Although I'm also enjoying Lobo, so we'll see where these go.

You could collect all these exciting covers, or you could have used this back cover space for some sweet Hostess fruit pie advertisements. It's one of my least favorite things about modern comic books.

I don't know what flavor of Hostess fruit pie they have these days. I know they got little. They're smaller than they used to be. But you can get apple and cherry Hostess fruit pies.

I don't think they make peach anymore. At least not since 1979 or so. I don't know.

I want to know more about Hostess fruit pies and less about covers that I don't need, but maybe you need these. I don't know.

Transformers issue 31 is, I guess once again, your Daily Comic Book Mission. It's your Daily Comic Book Mission for a second time to trip with Megatron.

So you're welcome.

More than meets the eye.

What's inside his mouth? Is Megatron brushing, guys? Use some mouthwash.
