Red Sonja #2 Story Summary

After parting ways with her unicorn friend in Red Sonja #1, the red-haired "Fighting First Lady of Sword and Sorcery" makes her way to the Port of Venzia in Argos. After witnessing two vessels that collide and sink in the harbor, she wanders the streets in search of an evening's entertainment and encounters a woman in distress being assaulted by three men.

After saving the woman, she fails to notice the brigand behind her who clubs Sonja in the head and drags her off.

When Sonja awakes, she finds herself trapped in a palace of mirrors. While trying to make sense of her situation, she starts to suffer from strange visions, but shakes them off and looks for a way out. As she stumbles through the bizarre maze, she encounters an old man lying on the ground. He tells Sonja a story of a strange creature that lives beneath the maze and of a mage who controls it. He then tells her about a jar from Khitai that contains the heart of an ancient holy creature and how he sank the vessels in the harbor, trying to stop its arrival. Sonja thinks him quite mad.

He then gives her a pouch, which she fills with bones on her way to meet the creature.

When she arrives in the chamber containing the strange monster and its mage, Sonja scatters the bones from her bag, which form an army of undead soldiers who fight for her. She defeats the mage's creations and stabs him, but then meets another strange man in the pit. Without warning, he turns into the monster awaiting the jar with the heart! Before it can seduce Sonja with its magic and turn her into its bride, the old man whom she met earlier sinks two more vessels in the harbor, one of which contained the vase that sinks to the bottom of the sea.

She kills the monster and returns to the old man. The two of them leave the maze together.
