Conan the Barbarian #102 Story Summary

After killing their leader and becoming war-chief of the Bamulas in Conan the Barbarian #101, Conan leads an army to fight the Kungado tribe. Conan has led a dozen raids in the past week, crushing their enemies before them, and hearing the lamentations of their women as the Bamulas establish their dominance in the region.

Conan's fierce fighting style and tactical guidance make winning the battle easy, and the Kungado give up quickly. They offer their allegiance to Conan, and Conan spares their lives, which is not the normal custom of the Bamulas. This upsets Basotu, a Bamula warrior, but Conan basically tells him to shut the f-ck up and sit down. Conan does not murder those who have surrendered.

Back in the village, the Bamula witch-men mock Conan for being white, and he knows that he will never be accepted. Conan broods and returns to his hut to find his wife, Felida, earned by his victory over his former rival, waiting for him. Felida is willing, and even though Conan is horny and finds her attractive, he's generally grumpy and just goes to bed because he takes no pride in earning another man's wife.

In the middle of the night, while the Bamulas sleep off their drunkenness, one of the guards screams and wakes Conan. He rouses the men and rushes to see who attacks them, only to find a cannibal vampire that they call the "Undead Ones." The Bamulas are terrified, but Conan throws a spear into the man and pins him to a cow, which also dies from the spear throw.

After Felida screams, Conan rushes to her aid and kills two more of the Undead Ones, who have sharp, pointy teeth and pointy vampire ears. Basotu kills the third one with a well-placed spear throw. One of the elders calls them the "Men Who Drink Blood" and claims they are not true Drelliks (the Bamula word for vampires).

The Bamulas capture one of them who wears crude crystal shades and calls himself Ashido. He surrenders and promises to lead Conan and a Bamula army to the rest of the Drelliks in a cave so that Conan may spare his life. Conan agrees, and they enter the hideout filled with sleeping vampire men.

It's a trap!

Gates slam down behind them, blocking the Bamula's escape. A giant vampire man rises from the throne. Conan attacks him and runs him through with a sword, yet he does not die. The giant tosses Conan around like a rag doll, imprisons his men, and carries his unconscious body deeper into their chambers of doom!
