Daily Comic Book Mission #023 Transcription
Welcome back to your Daily Comic Book Mission from ComicBook.beer where today I've got something a little bit different for you. In part because I'm not entirely sure if I love it. So I'm going to assign this to you to see what you think. You give it a try. It is interesting.
Today's Daily Comic Book Mission is Godzilla, Kai-Sei Era issue number one. Kaisai. What is Kai-Sei?
K-A-I-S-E-I. Well, Kai Sei power is like big lizard energy or big lizard juice. So it's like a 99 pack of PBR. It's kind of like a super power. Well, let's get started here.
This is a July, 2025 release from IDW. The cover's beautiful. I love the artwork. Actually, the art's what pulled me in.
And I'm up to issue number eight now. And I'm just like, I'm unsure, but I keep going. It's an absolutely gorgeous comic book series, but the premise is kind of ridiculous. It's like we've gone full circle here. Godzilla clearly influenced Pacific Rim. And I think now it's going back the other direction. So this is like Godzilla influenced by Pacific Rim. It's an alternate version of history. It's present day, but not really present day. And there's these giant Kaiju attacking cities and we meet G-Force USA, who's comprised of four, well, three individuals and Jet Jaguar. Jet Jaguar is actually the best part of this because he can't speak, he just sings and dances and raps.
So maybe Jet Jaguar should get his own series, because Jet Jaguar's pretty awesome, but we get to meet all of the... It goes through a brief, it's a little disjointed, but it goes through a brief introduction of the characters, and then we meet who's really the main character of the series, named Jacen.
And Jacen has Kai-Sei power. He's a human. It's like Godzilla shoots him with his fire breath, and Jason lives, and then he's now on G-Force USA.
Anguirus rises from the Gulf of Mexico and starts to attack, makes his way towards the US. There's a lot of things that happen very quickly in the first issue. It's actually not a short issue per se, but G-Force forces Anguirus away, and then the one character is telepathic, and then she senses that Anguirus is dying, and we don't really learn much about Jacen in the first issue.
He goes overboard and starts to see things, and it really leads into the next issue, and it's a six issue story arc which it seems like an awful lot of these are these days.
Is it worth reading?
I'd say check it out if you like Godzilla and you want a slightly different take on Godzilla. I've never seen anything quite like this in the Godzilla universe, and I've seen an awful lot of stuff in the Godzilla universe.
I love the art style. Written by Tim Seeley, art by Nikola, whose last name I absolutely can't pronounce. Cizmesija. I'm sure I butchered that, but his art is terrific.
Nice colors, good paper quality. This may lead you into two and three and the rest of them.
Personally, I thought issue six was a little confusing, but seven was pretty good. Perhaps I'll cover these all individually. You can check them out on the website, comicbook.beer. They use a lot of modern color effects in the book, which are really good. You know, I'm up to issue eight and I keep coming back for more. So that must say something. I'm intrigued in much the same way that I'm intrigued about the 99 pack of Godzilla themed Pabst Blue Ribbon I saw the other day.
I thought that was kind of a joke until I saw one in person. Like you would need two people and a full size pickup truck to get that home. So sadly I did not get it though. If you really like PBR and you're going to go through 99 cans of PBR, it does seem like a value.
And Godzilla's pretty awesome, so I love that they're letting the Godzilla license run wild these days. Godzilla's fighting everybody. Godzilla's in everything, he's on everything. And you know what? Great. Because Godzilla rules.
Check it out, Godzilla Kai Sei Era issue number one. Beautiful cover, maybe it pairs well with PBR. Maybe it pairs well with 99 PBRs. I mean, if you have a Godzilla-sized thirst, then Pabst Blue Ribbon is there for you.
Thanks for listening to ComicBook.beer. I don't like PBR enough to drink 99 of them, so... give me a 99-pack of Iron City, I'll take that.
