Conan the Barbarian #36 Story Summary

Conan rides into Aghrapur covered in filth to give a report to the king. Before he can speak, however, he collapses from exhaustion. Thankfully, Lady Amytis has him taken to her quarters, where fair maidens bathe Conan and awaken him on a bed of pillows. Lady Amytis has her way with Conan, then, leaving him exhausted once more. It's tough being Conan.

The next day, the portly King Yildiz brags about a headless statue that he "liberated" from a captured city. When its head is returned from another city, the idol will be complere and all of Hyrkania will know that "King Yildiz" is in command.

Conan, unimpressed by the bullshit, goes back to archery and bedding the queen.

The next day, another force returns with the head. They place it on the idol and, wouldn't you know it, the idol comes alive and starts to kill everyone! Nothing can defeat the stone golem, as it goes on a rampage, crushing soldiers like eggshells. Even Conan cannot defeat it, but he notices a Hyrkanian priest suspiciously holding an amulet that, no doubt, controls the terrible monster.

Conan kills the priest, saves the day, and is thanklessly rewarded by being sent out on another mission.
