Spawn! So thirsty...
Why review comic books in a normal way when I can do this when talking about Spawn 374? This is how you know this show is not A.I. generated. And A.I., whatever, is not going to take you to a nice fountain and a brewery and shout Spawn with guitar pedal effects. Only me, baby. That’s why you’re listening to ComicBook.Beer or watching ComicBook.Beer or completely ignoring ComicBook.Beer. It doesn’t really matter. What matters is that I’m talking about the April 2026 issue of Spawn.
Back in 1992 when I picked up Spawn number one, I would not have expected to be talking about this on the internet. Also, I didn’t know what the internet was then because it didn’t exist. Probably a good thing, to be honest. But at least Spawn continues, even though for the most part it’s just a bunch of people from hell shouting at each other. I’ve been a Spawn reader on and off over the past couple decades, and I’ve always enjoyed the series more from the style and atmosphere and illustration standpoint rather than just the storyline.
The character Spawn is very cool. What he’s doing though, it doesn’t really matter what he’s doing. He’s punching, strangling, squashing, or choking something with chains and yelling, usually looking disgruntled. That’s Spawn. It’s not My Little Pony, though that crossover would be incredible. Going to hell is magic.
Now, is this a good time to jump into the Spawn series at issue 374? I would say anytime is a good time to jump in because you’re going to be confused regardless. You may as well just start enjoying the pretty pictures now. And what pretty pictures they are. The covers are always incredible these days.
Script and plot by Todd McFarlane. Brett Booth does the art for this one in the Todd McFarlane style, more like the Spawn style. I always just called it the Todd McFarlane style back in the day.
This issue is titled The Resurrection of Malebolgia, but I keep wanting to call him Malabogia. I think that’s more fun. And I like this other guy’s name in here. It’s actually one of my favorite things about this issue. Where is this guy’s name? Hang on. Flipping through it on the microphone here. Blah, blah, blah. Here we go. Cogliastro. That’s fun. That’s fun to say. Just run around shouting that. Cogliastro. It puts everyone in a good mood. Cogliastro...
You can almost smell this bad breath. I like the paper quality. It’s blood, got some gore, a lot of screaming, almost swearing. The colors really pop and it’s a fun read. If you like Spawn, not a whole lot has really changed here.
If you’re going to just dive into the series, I recommend getting a whole bunch of issues so you can kind of figure out what’s going on. They don’t cost all that much, and this cover is totally badass.
So Spawn issue number 374 is recommended if you like Spawn and if you like screaming and complete nonsense, which I do.
Thanks AI, you’re the best.
