Yes I have expanded my horizons. Welcome back to 80s Comics for the review of Shogun Warriors issue number one from February 1978. What You haven't been reading Shogun Warriors Well you're going to want to after you watch this review because this is like the best thing I've ever read in my life. I love this comic book and I'm so psyched to dig into the entire series. By the way this is super cheap to buy. You're gonna love this. So check it out. Today a warrior spawned in the dim past created by a science of the far future shall fight in his first battle fighting triumph and failure and failure and triumph. And it just keeps getting better. Great writing Herb Trimpe does the artwork. And he did a lot of work on the early G I Joe.

Every book should be written like this. Back servant of good you face Rockcore And Rockcore claims this day for evil We're going to meet our first enormous Shogun warrior named Raideen who's battling Rockcore. And check this out this whole issue is like Pacific Rim meets Lord of the Rings and Logan's Run. It's incredible. Rockcore versus Ray Dean who we learn is being piloted by not one not two but three brave human warriors. Check out the battle it's great. There's so many ads in this book though. Even though I like the microdots. You'll shoot your eye out kid. Too many ads. But we do get a backstory. What's that, Carson How do we ever get into this mess Well I'll tell you.

Great Caesar's Ghost, get the famous Clark Bar superhero posters. I like Clark Bars. Everybody likes Clark Bars. We get some backstory here in this. We're at the heart of a secluded mountain range. The writing in this issue is so good. Sprawl's a hidden base equipped with technology of the future but designed and shaped in antiquity. Is that the unc from Logan's Run It is known to only four people as Shogun Sanctuary. Those of you who seen Logan's Run a thousand times know what I'm talking about here. I fear the ancient vow of our ancestors have pledged generation after generation the same vow we have pledged. We will soon face its first test since the Great Chaos Wars. And thankfully the book goes into great depth explaining the Great Chaos Wars. Which are absurd and that's why they're great. More advertisements. Well let's flip the page because we get to meet our heroes for the first time. All right so.

He pushes a button and teleports the three most valiant human prospects to their secret lair. Okay we have a test pilot like a marine biologist and somebody that can't drive very well. These three people. Kind like the Power Rangers minus two. I love this part where they have to sit through the world's longest holographic PowerPoint presentation where they get all the backstory. And you really need to just soak this in. You gotta read this on your own. It's like aliens invade the earth but then launch dinosaurs to conquer the earth and then humans show up and battle the aliens. The creator of the inverted alchemy of sorcery and science monstrous servants of evil.

Love that shot. What they don't tell you is that he's actually just taking a relaxing bubble bath. It really changes the context doesn't it The last lieutenants led by Maur-Kon were trapped in their underground base sealed in suspended animation. Yesterday long dormant volcano erupted above the site of the Chaos Wars final battle. Breaking the state of suspended animation in the subterranean vault of evil Lord Maur-Kon and his agents were awakened.

So like Sauron but much weirder. Our heroes are given a five minute course on how to pilot that thing. They enthusiastically run to their doom. We get more ads. But surprisingly they don't die They fight well and battle Rockcore to the death or until he oozes out and forms a pink lava monster. And leads us to the next issue with the promise of two more robots Combatara and Dangard Ace.

Is this not like the greatest comic book ever written And there's a whole bunch of them. Look somebody went shopping. It's amazing how far your 5 dollars will go when you're buying 70s comics that nobody wants but are really good. And I'll be exploring the entire series of Shogun Warriors because look at it. Look at it Oh there's an ad for Kiss on the back in the back cover.

Shogun Warriors issue number one is highly highly highly highly recommended by 80s comics even though it's 70s it's so good this is like the kind of science fiction action that we need today. In fact I would say that Shogun Warriors are the heroes that we need today. Fighting for freedom over lava in 1970s computer terminals. Look at that panel that's great stuff. Look she's learning to fly. They literally learned to fly this thing in 20 minutes.

Invincible guardians of world freedom Still only 35 cents. It actually won't cost you much more than that today. It still is only about 35 cents. Well maybe a little bit. Like a buck 35.
