Daily Comic Book Mission #045 Transcription

Is everyone ready to fight for freedom over land and air? I hope so, because today's Daily Comic Book Mission is G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero issue number 327. So I've got like 324 more of these to review or recommend, I guess, since I like all of them. What a surprise. Big fan of G.I. Joe. I'm sure you've never guessed that.

And this issue opens up with three nuns who have just dug their own graves. There's a bunch of gorillas aiming AK-47s at them. But you know what? I don't think those nuns are nuns. You know who I think they are? I think they're the ladies of the '80s from G.I. Joe. And those gorillas are Revenge Blue Ninjas in disguise. So there's all kinds of chaos here, as one guy rips off his face and he's got a robot face, but then he takes a sniper round to the head and it explodes.

And the nuns are none other than Cover Girl, Jinx, and Dawn, who's like the female Snake Eyes or something. I'm not really sure what Dawn's character is, but this is like an all-ladies issue of G.I. Joe. The sniper is the new character that we met in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #325 named Down Range. And the other one here is Sherlock, who's got a robot arm.

Some of the newer characters I'm just not that familiar with, but everybody loves Cover Girl. She goes way back. There's no Scarlett or Lady J in this issue though, so it's like the B team of Lady Joes. Although come on, nobody could put Cover Girl on the B team. She drove the Wolverine, the thing with the missiles. Nobody puts Cover Girl in a corner, not when they're going to investigate this mountain in Sierra Gordo.

And they're talking to Duke, Mainframe, and Stalker at the Pit, who are giving them satellite feed guidance or something as they make their way into this underground mine. And Downrange and Sherlock are waiting to ambush a bunch of these robot ninjas, and they just blow them to pieces. There's a bit of Indiana Jones in there, as the human ninjas Jinx and Dawn are dodging booby traps and whatnot, and then the robots just multiply.

So eventually they're just outnumbered, and it's page after page of machine gunning robots in an ancient Aztec-style pyramid where they're hunting for a pterodrome. So it's a pretty quick read, and it ends on a cliffhanger, but it's fun nonetheless. We don't know what's really going on with these pterodromes. And if you remember a couple of issues ago, there's a big AI enemy.

So it's a fun read, though, a brisk read. Larry Hama does the writing.

Andrew Krahnke, probably can't pronounce his name, does the art once again. He's done the last couple issues, pretty good. And it's nice to see some of the Joes that we just don't get to see all that often. Maybe one of these days we'll get the C-team of guys from back in the '80s like Flash, Zap, and Grunt, who never do anything. Are they retired? Are they just on a beach somewhere, fighting for freedom over mojitos with little drink umbrellas and nachos?

So check it out. G.I. Joe number 327 is your daily comic book mission. And now you know. And knowing is the other half of the battle that isn't Emojito with a little drink umbrella.
