King Conan #9 (Marvel Comics, 1982)

King Conan #9 (March 1982) titled "Bones of the Brown Man" is a riveting issue that shows how even the greatest enemies can work together to overcome adversaries like a giant magical river muck monster with snakes for hair and an ill-tempered demeanor fixated on murdering Conan and anything else in its way.

King Conan #9

Story Summary | King Conan #9

Conan, Conn, and a party of soldiers meet his Pict rival Dekanawatha Blood-Ax, just across the border, to discuss hunting grounds. As luck would have it, Mr. Blood-Ax has a teenage son named Akenak who is roughly the same as as Conan's son, Conn. The two boys are immediately at each other's throats, and Conn decides to challenge Akenak in his "journey to manhood" quest, where they must complete three dangerous challenges (the last of which is collecting the bones of a monster.) This coming-of-age story follows the boys on their adventure, and readers are impressed as they mature and grow to respect each other until a rival faction of Picts kidnaps them and unleashes a terrible river monster! Conn and Akenak make a good team, but is Conan man enough to work with his rivals to defeat a towering beast with snake-hair?
