The Warlord Collection (DC Comics)

The Warlord comic book series, published by DC Comics, debuted in 1976 during a period when sword-and-sorcery adventure was surging in popularity across fantasy fiction and comics alike. Created by writer-artist Mike Grell, the series follows U.S. Air Force pilot Travis Morgan, who crashes in the remote polar regions and discovers Skartaris, a hidden world at the Earth’s core where prehistoric beasts, lost civilizations, and powerful sorcery still thrive. Unlike the Conan the Barbarian series, Morgan battles dinosaurs, monsters, and villains with swords, lasers, and a Magnum.

Blending pulp adventure, heroic fantasy, and science-fiction concepts, The Warlord stood out for its dynamic artwork and expansive world-building.  Running for more than a decade, the series remains one of DC’s most enduring fantasy titles and a defining example of late-Bronze-Age adventure comics.
